PMU was created as a cooperative effort between the University of Florida, the Florida pest management industry, and the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (DACS), the regulators of the pest control industry in Florida. Our goal is to both teach and demonstrate all aspects of home and commercial pest control, providing trainees with both improved knowledge and practical experience. All classes are taught by faculty of UF/IFAS, DACS and leaders in the pest management industry. Everyone understands that increased professionalism and improved skills translate to superior job performance, increased profit and fewer customer problems.Classes are limited to 20 participants. Please see the FAQs (http://pmu.ifas.ufl.edu/FAQS.shtml) for appropriate dress, smoking policy and other information. Turfgrass Pest Foundations AGENDA - March 6-8, 3013DAY 1: March 6, 20137:30-8:00 AM   Registration8:00-8:30        Introduction, Pre-test, Objectives of training, Manuals8:30-9:10        Licensing and CEU requirements for Chapters 482 FS and 487 FS9:10-9:50        Vehicle inspection (how to avoid common mistakes that may result in fines)9:50-10:05       Break10:05-11:00     Navigating the label, MSDS, and PPE11:00-12:00     Pesticide spill drill12:00-12:30     Lunch (provided)12:30-1:00 PM  Turfgrass integrated pest management (IPM)1:00-1:30         IPM scouting kit and methods of sampling1:30-2:00         Equipment calibration and math2:00-2:15         Break2:15-3:15         Pesticide formulations, chemical classes, and pesticide resistance management3:15-4:45         Best practices for granular and liquid pesticide applications4:45-5:00         Evaluation, then dismissal for the day DAY 2: May 7, 20137:45-8:00 AM    Common turfgrass anatomy, species, varieties, and maintenance requirements9:00-10:00        Non-living turfgrass problems and stresses10:00-10:15      Break10:15-11:15      Common turf diseases: signs, symptoms, and management11:15-12:00      Common weed identification and management12:00-12:30 PM  Lunch (provided)12:30-2:00         Common turf insect pests: identification, damage, and management2:00-2:15          Break2:15-4:45          Green Industries Best Management Practices4:45-5:00          Evaluation and dismissal for the day DAY 3: May 8, 20137:45-8:00 AM    Registration8:00-8:30         Review, questions and answers8:30-9:30         Outdoor exercise to practice more skills9:30-9:45         Break9:45-11:00        Case studies, discussion, and developing an IPM plan11:00-11:30      Post-test and evaluation11:30-12:00      CEU forms, graduation, and photos Basics of Turfgrass Pest Management (1 day) 150.00 Turfgrass Pest Foundations (2.5 days) 350.00 Turfgrass Pest Master (3 days) 325.00 State/County Extension Faculty 100.00
