Description: Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a form of cognitive behavioral therapy that combines acceptance and mindfulness strategies with behavior change strategies in order to increase psychological flexibility and valued living. The growing evidence base for ACT provides supports for its utility as an effective treatment for a variety of psychiatric, clinical, and health concerns including, but not limited to, anxiety disorders, depression, symptoms of psychosis, chronic pain, smoking cessation, coping with chronic health problems, weight loss, and workplace stress. Furthermore, a field effectiveness study found that ACT training improved effective counseling and reduced burnout among mental health workers. This workshop will serve as introductory training that facilitates contact with each of the six core ACT processes and will blend didactic and experiential training. The training will begin with a brief overview of ACT followed by more detailed consideration of each of the core processes using video clips, demonstrations, and experiential exercises with opportunities to practice skills in large and small groups.Additional Public Info: Registration fee required.
