(You are responsible for your own drinks)Featured PresentationWill SQL Server Standard Edition Meet Your Needs?Speaker: Daniel TaylorSummary: Working in large Enterprise environments as an employee is a challenge on the best of days. Getting the company to purchase the proper software is I believe a difficult task for even the most seasoned DBAs. Having started at my 3rd large corporation I have come to learn that each enterprise manages the purse strings in their own manner. I have always been graced with corporate licenses that allowed me to install Enterprise Editions of SQL Server across the board. I am happy to say that the pendulum has swung and I am now tasked with justifying my SQL Server licenses. This has been a positive event for me that I would like to share with you. This session will share with you some of my current experiences and look under the hood at how SQL Server is handling your requests. You will be armed with some facts that can help you decide Standard or Enterprise edition so that you can meet the projects objectives, your SLAs and most importantly justify the cost of your SQL Server license.About Daniel: Daniel Taylor started his DBA life at Nielsen Media Research Company working with Sybase ASE 11 thru 12.5, Sybase IQ, eventually moving to SQL server. Daniel has worked with SQL Server versions from 7.0 to 20012. Daniel also worked for Publix as Senior DBA, Technical Specialist and was the SQL Server team lead that supported over 2000 instances of SQL Server. Currently Daniel is a Sr. SQL Database Specialist at New York Life Tampa Division. You can find him on Twitter as @DBABullDog.Pre-Meeting PresentationIntroduction to Extended Events (Part 5)Speaker: Jonathan Kehayias (Video replay from pluralsight.com)Summary: Did you know that Profiler has been marked as deprecated in SQL 2012? Extended Events are the new way to look at what's going on in your SQL Server and in the final part of this series you'll learn how to use them to perform analysis and troubleshooting on SQL Server using either Transact-SQL or the Extended Events UIs. This series is applicable for developers, DBAs and anyone who uses SQL Server from SQL Server 2008 onwards.
