2013 Brighten the Day 5k Run:Cancer has or will touch virtually everyone's life in one way or another and has touched ours. Government and private health insurance strategies are placing greater responsibility for payment on patients and their families. The share or portion of the cost of a patient's cancer drugs and supportive care is increasing and will continue to do so.
The good news is that there are over 600 cancer therapies in the drug pipeline and the number of cancer drugs reaching the market is expected to double over the next several years. The number of U.S. cancer survivors is expected to increase by more than 30 percent to 18 million people by 2020. Many of the new cancer therapies that are coming to market are more complex and require specialized nursing support. We want to make sure that patients have access to the nursing services and support they need in order to get the greatest possible outcome from their treatments.
Our goal in establishing the Oncology Care Fund is to help ensure as many patients as possible have access to the therapies that can save, extend and add quality to their lives. Through the Oncology Care Fund we intend to help people gain access to the best care possible, help them navigate the complexities of our healthcare system and retain their dignity and quality of life along the way. The Oncology Care Fund combines personal care with technologies that will enable expedited access to life saving and life sustaining therapies and the supportive care they require.
As they say, a journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step. During 2013 we will continue to raise funds with the intention of providing patient assistance funding and nursing support services for cancer patients.
Thank you for your support and prayers.
