What You Need to Know About Election 2012

Get Involved: Election 2012

Did you know there are three ways to vote? Absentee, Early, and Election Day.

Here is a breakdown of each method--

1) Absentee:
Vote by Mail or absentee is an easier method if circumstances don't allow you to vote at a physical location. Any registered voter can request an absentee ballot, however there are a few drawbacks to this option. If your signature is not updated on the voter certificate, the ballot will be considered illegal and thrown out. Voters must also ensure their ballot is submitted to the Office of Elections by 7 p.m. on Election Day, otherwise it will not count.

There are three ways to request an absentee ballot: Online, By Mail or Phone. All requests should be made to your county's Supervisor of Elections on the sixth day before Election Day. A great resource for Seminole County Voters is www.trackmyabsentee.com which shows the status of absentee ballots.

2) Early Voting:
Many voters agree this is the most convenient method. Early Voting starts 10 days before election day and depending upon your county, polls open as early as 7 a.m. and close as late as 7 p.m. There are also multiple locations throughout communities and it's not limited to voting precincts. Check your local libray to see if it is an early voting location. All votes are saved and tabulated on Election Night.

3) Election Day:
Make sure you have three things: proper identification, your voting guide (sample ballot), and patience. Election Day can be frustrating with long lines and misunderstandings of polling locations. Remember: your voting precinct is NOT the same as your early voting location. Eliminate stress and know before you go.

***UPDATE***

Click here to check your voters registration status.

The last day to register is October 9th and it determines your eligibility to vote in the November 6th General Election.
October 9th is also the final day to make sure all of your information is current. This includes address changes, signatures, party changes etc.

If you're headed to the polls and know of a neighbor or church member who may not have a ride, make sure to take them along. Every vote counts and it's up to our community to stand together and make our voices heard...
