ESPN has apologized for the comments made during the BCS game.

During Monday night's College Football Championship game between Alabama and Notre Dame, announcer Brent Musburger spent almost the entire time complimenting Katherine Webb, the girlfriend of Alabama quarterback A.J. McCarron.

A station rep Tweeted, "We always try to capture interesting storylines and the relationship between an Auburn grad who is Miss Alabama and the current Alabama quarterback certainly met that test.

"However, we apologize that the commentary in this instance went too far and Brent understands that."

Meanwhile, Katherine has gained almost 200,000 Twitter followers since the game.
