What You Missed July 16th

Sylvestor Stallone's son was found dead in his Los Angeles home by a maid on Friday.   He was only 36 years old.  The cause of death is unknown at this time.   Sylvester's rep issued a statement saying he's, "devastated and grief-stricken over the sudden loss of his son Sage Stallone.  "His compassion and thoughts are with Sage's mother, Sasha.  Sage was a very talented and wonderful young man, his loss will be felt forever." A source adds,  "This came completely out of the blue.  Sylvester did not see this coming for one minute.  Sage was healthy, and Sylvester thought he was doing really well, this came from complete left field.  "Sylvester was very close to Sage and he is absolutely overwhelmed with grief by his death.  He is totally stunned and still in a state of shock."  Sage Moonblood Stallone . . . yes, that's his real middle name . . . appeared with his dad in two movies.  In 1990, he played Rocky's son in "Rocky 5".  And he was in Sly's 1996 action flick "Daylight"

Charlie Sheen quit Twitter!   His last Tweet read, "reach for the stars everyone. dogspeed cadre. c out."   It was accompanied by a picture of a bottle of Tabasco sauce on the dashboard of an airplane flying above the clouds.   You can see the photo here.

Dru Brees signed a $100 million, five-year contract with the New Orleans Saints, making him the highest-paid player in NFL history  $60 million of that is GUARANTEED MONEY . . . and he gets it all in the first three years of the deal.  That includes $40 million in YEAR ONE.  He's the first NFL player to make that much cash in one season. He's also the first player to average $20 million a year.  Oh, and yesterday, Drew invited people to come see him at a Jimmy John's sandwich shop.  First he Tweeted,  "Just made it official. Contract is signed! ‪#NOLALOVE."  Then he added,  "Who wants to join me for a celebratory #9 at Jimmy Johns at 4301 Veterans Blvd?  See you there."  Brees actually OWNS that Jimmy John's, and he really did go there.  He even posed for pictures with fans.

On Thursday, Steven Tyler announced he was quitting his job as a judge on "American Idol".  On Friday, Jennifer Lopez joined him.  She announced on Ryan Seacrest's radio show, "I honestly feel like the time has come that I have to get back to doing the other things that I do, that I put . . . on hold because I love 'Idol' so much."   BUT . . . Steven and Jennifer's split from "Idol" might NOT be as clean and amicable as they let on.  There are some pretty credible rumors that the two of them didn't quit on their own terms . . . they were forced out over MASSIVE BUDGET CUTS.  Jennifer made $15 MILLION last season and was pushing for $17 MILLION this year.  Steven reportedly made around $10 MILLION.  "Idol" is still a hit TV show but it's not what it once was.  Ratings were down about 25% last year, and that, obviously, hurts the show's ad revenue.  So Fox is looking to cut back a little, and spending a fortune on judges is an easy cut.  Randy Jackson's  status is still up in the air.  There have been rumors he'll be back . . . he'll be back just as a mentor, not a judge . . . or he'll be gone from the show entirely.
