Update 10:19 a.m. ET Nov. 28: Two male teen victims died in the shooting at a Sacramento mall Friday, police said.

A 17-year-old male was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries and died hours later. A 19-year-old male was pronounced dead at the scene.

Original report: The Arden Fair mall in Sacramento was evacuated after the shooting occurred at 6:13 PT near the facility’s southwest entrance, The Sacramento Bee reported.

Authorities said the shooter fled the sprawling mall and has not been located, KOVR reported.

According to a surveillance camera inside the mall, a single shooter, believed to be between 18 to 25 years old, approached two people, The Bee reported. The shooter then fired at the people and then exited the mall, the newspaper reported.

Antwon Martinez, who works inside the mall, told The Bee that he and his co-workers heard two rounds fired before hearing more gunfire about 10 seconds later.

“Heard a couple of shots go off, didn’t really think anything of it,” Martinez told the newspaper. “And more and more kept going off, so everyone started running toward our back room. ... Everyone just started running.”

According to officials with the Sacramento Police Department, the gunman is believed to be driving a 1990s red Camry.

Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg said his office was waiting for more details.

“We are deeply concerned by the increase in gun violence in Sacramento and other cities since the onset of COVID-19, and have supported increasing our city’s efforts to reach young people who are at risk,” Steinberg tweeted. “A gun is never the answer.”

Officials with Arden Fair said the mall would be closed until it is cleared to reopen by police, KCRA reported.
