Hampton, who was best known for roles in “F Troop” and the werewolf father in “Teen Wolf” died from complications due to Parkinson’s disease, his family and agent told NBC News.

A statement to the media by his family said Hampton had been working as a mentor to drama students, as well as doing charity work.

Hampton had a variety of roles starting in the 1960s on shows like “Gunsmoke” and “Gomer Pyle, USMC.”

On the big screen, Hampton not only appeared in “Teen Wolf” opposite Michael J. Fox, who also was diagnosed with Parkinson’s; but also “The Longest Yard” with Burt Reynolds, a friend of Hampton’s; and “Sling Blade” with Billy Bob Thornton, Deadline reported.

He also found work behind the camera directing more than a dozen episodes of “Evening Shade” also starring Reynolds, and writing for several sitcoms, Deadline reported.

Hampton leaves behind a wife and three children, who are asking fans to donate to The Michael J. Fox Foundation in his memory, NBC News reported.
